Private Snorkeling between Continents in Silfra
Tour Description
This private excursion takes you inside the Silfra Fissure, a flooded volcanic crack located in Thingvellir National Park in Southwest Iceland. This site is situated on the Golden Circle route, approximately 50 kilometers (a 45-minute drive) from Reykjavík. Silfra is globally unique because its water is filtered underground through lava rock for decades, resulting in some of the clearest natural water on Earth.
Upon arrival at Thingvellir, your private, certified PADI Dive Master will provide a thorough safety briefing. Because the glacier water remains at a constant temperature of 2°C to 4°C (36°F to 39°F) year-round, high-quality protective gear is mandatory.
You will be equipped with a thermal undersuit and a waterproof drysuit to keep you warm and dry, neoprene hoods and gloves, a mask, snorkel, and fins.
The drysuit naturally traps air, keeping you safely buoyant so you can float effortlessly along the gentle current without strenuous swimming. Please note that all participants must review and sign a standard Snorkeling Medical Statement before entering the water.
As you float through the fissure, you will pass between the steep rock walls of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. The tour guides you through distinct sections: Silfra Hall, which is the widest canyon, the deep and dramatic Silfra Cathedral, and a shallow, bright blue oasis known as "the Real Blue Lagoon."
At the end of the swim, you will exit the water and warm up with hot chocolate alongside your guide. Round-trip transport from Reykjavík can be added to your booking as an optional extra.
